Korea was the next team gone with the wind.  Photo:©2011 Chris Cameron/ETNZ

Korea's White Tiger Challenge dug in her bows after a mark rounding.  Easing the wing out didn't dump enough lift, and the jib staying filled didn't help in Sunday's gusty winds.   Photo:©2011 Chris Cameron/ETNZ

From Team Korea: "As we bore off around the mark boat after slowing right down, we got a big gust, couldn’t ease the wing enough in time and so had too much pressure on, stuck the nose in and slowly went over sideways.  I thought we nearly saved it, but the wind just pushed us over.  Actually we got away quite lightly."   It was a striking image as Peter Merrington from Australia fell from the hull and bounced off the wing, sliding safely into the water, while Team Korea’s guest racer at the back was left hanging in mid-air for a minute before climbing down the trampoline into the water, for an experience she will never forget!

GreenComm joined the club nearly at the finish line, slowly rounding up until they passed the point of no return.  GreenComm expects it will take two days to repair the damage.  Photo:©2011 Guilain Grenier/Oracle Racing

Note that in this image the GreenComm's AC45 is actually lying on the opposite hull from the previous photo.  As the boat was being righted, the sails caught enough wind to send her immediately over in the other direction. Righting lines are being streamed to a tender at right, preparing to pull the cat upright again.

Oracle 4, skippered by James Spithill, flirted with disaster after getting off to a healthy lead in the Fleet Race.

The boat looks ready to drive herself under, but Spithill kept things on the vertical, and eventually lost and regained the lead to finish in first place.  Photo:©2011 Guilain Grenier/Oracle Racing

In the time trial, Oracle4 came even closer to trouble.  With the sails dumped, Spithill narrowly managed to avoid a capsize. Photo:©2011 ACEA/Ricardo Pinto

Energy looked like they were toast in the time trial, too, going right to the edge, but very deftly rounded up until the boat was headed upwind and settled back down on two hulls  Photo:©2011 ACEA/Ricardo Pinto
