America's Cup 2010: Valencia
Valencia, February 10, 2010 - Link to Feb 8 Forecast
Summary: Sunny morning with NW about 12-15 knots. Some overhead cloud cover builds later in the morning and the wind eases to about 8-12 knots.
Overnight in
Valencia the temperature hovers around 3 degrees Celsius but with
the wind chill puts below freezing as the boats leave the harbour
in about 15-17 knot NW breeze. The temperature warms to
around 7 degrees with the windchill putting the temperature
around freezing point so expect more pictures of Harold in his
fur lined hat on the committee boat in the morning. The
wind eases to around 12-15 knots in the afternoon as cloud cover
builds with the windchill suggesting it will feel about 4 or 5
degrees C out there - less if you are wet.
Race 1: Friday 12th February 2010 Summary: It's a write-off. With very light 2-5 knot NW in the morning, turning around to 2 knot SE. Yep - the RepCast gives it about 15% chance of racing. And Harold might want to canvass the owners about an earlier "go home" call as the prediction is for snow on Friday evening. That's right a few cm of snow to fall on Friday night and expect more on Saturday! Race 2: Sunday 14th February 2010 Summary: St. Valentines day... after snow in Valencia on Saturday.
It still doesn't
look promising -- It will be colder than charity and the RepCast
shows about 6-9 knot SW again. RepCast chance of racing about
25%. Updated: Valencia RepCast issued 0900 New Zealand Daylight Savings Time (GMT + 13) Wednesday February 10
